i have a question about my rbp i have eight of them and it doesent seem like i can get them to eat much there like 2 to 2 1/2 inches i had a gold fish in there and it nipped all the fins off but it died and they devoured it but it has bin like three days now and it doesent seem like i can get them to eat much and they dont eat any cichlid pellets and they just leave them alone. i put another goldy in there and they leave it.. soo i was just lookin for some tips for feeding them and how often?????:D

I have 6 rbp's they are about 3ish inches long and they are eating a ton.
How long have you had them?
What size tank?
How big are the goldfish you are feeding them?

first off... you shouldn't be feeding goldfish in the first place... because they can stunt the growth of your Ps.. use guppies or cichlids instead..

i personally grew my little guys out from nickel sized to 2-3 inches almost entirely on shirmp... id feed them sinking goldfish pellets also... and eventually phased them from the shrimp to the sinking pellets to some hikari floating food sticks...

mine are eating sinking chiclid pellets, tilapia fillet, blood worms and shrimp
i agree gold fish are bad...no nutritional value and can have parasites...I have never heard of feeding your p's chiclids though...unless you have a breeding pair and need a place for the fry to go..I think that would get expensive

I tried brine shrimp but they didn't take it...im talking shrimp you get at the fish counter at the grocery store...I get the pre cooked ones

12 rbp's: got em @ 1" now big
ghost shrimp,worms..blacks,red's,earth worms, brine shrimp, small guppies. and from the store...bay shrimp, you can even buy them canned, next to the canned tuna.

Most of my p's eat krill and shrimp. Once in a while they eat a shiner from the local bait shop. I don't feed them goldfish anymore at all. Sometimes they will eat pork or tuna, but it can make the water a little dirty so only once in a great while.

Your better off feeding them real shrimp as opposed to canned mini shrimp. The canned shrimp is soft and breaks apart too easy, can make a mess. Don't leave any shrimp remains that they don't finish eating in the tank for longer than a day.
