ive had this male fish for a while now. i have been trying to find information on it but i guess no one keeps them. whats the difference between a platinum/gold honduran red point and a regular pink convict? my husband says its just a pink male but i dont know. i want to know becuase its breeding with my female regular hrp and i want to know if its worth the trouble raising the babies.

If you are doing it for profit then probably no since it is not 2 gold HRP.

HRPs blue or platinum are a completely different sp. then cons. They are undescribed so they only have a common name.
The main differences are:

1. Body shape and size. Male cons will get a nuchal hump where male HRPs don't. HRPs only grow to 3'' max and cons 6''. HRPs are a dwarf sp.
2. Behavior-cons are way more aggressive and especially in spawning.
3. Cons will breed anywhere where HRPs are cave spawners.
4. True HRPs are only found in Rio Danli, Honduras, and cons are found in Costa Rica.

After keeping both I can really see the difference. I have a breeding pair right now. Awsome little fish.

I found breeding these guys pretty easy-add male and female-that's it. My 1st spawn didn't work out as w/ breeding most cichlids, but hopefully the 2nd will. I wouldn't expect to make any money off these guys and especially if they are breed w/ convicts. They would be more valuable as pure HRPs.

I've kept both the platinum HRP's and pink cons. I find the HRP males have some red coloring in the tail (not as much and normal HRPs) where pink cons have no red. The females get some pink/red on their bellies, but none of the orange that you see on pink cons.

I'm on my second generation of them as the male from my original pair killed the female when she wasn't ready to breed. Like cichlidfish says, they are pretty easy to breed. Just add water.

I've also recently picked up some juvie blue HRP's and have them growing out. Hopefully I'll get a spawn from them before too long.

ok well my male platinum is an adult and hes only about 3" no hump and he has a bit of red on the tail. I had a male convict that was 6" biggest convict ive ever seen. ive also seen these hrps dont spawn on just anything while convicts do. im not breeding them for money. it was just that i would like to raise them. but for normal convicts i wouldnt even bother. nice to see someone keeps this fish other than me. my male breeds all the time with my female hrp but ive never tried to raise or save the fry. they breed smack dab in the middle in the tank of monsters so the eggs dont last much. i found interesting to have this fish but i guess since its not monster no one ever comes foward on here to have them.

What you have is called a Leucistic HRP. Check out Rapps' website, he has pics of some. Cichlidfish is correct. I have know idea how many times I have had to explain that these guys ARE NOT BLUE CONVICTS. Different local, diff look, diff spawning rituals, in fact they are no way similar. I have breed my Luecistic female with my HRP male, and most of the fry (like 98%) came out blue. The white is definitely not a dominant gene.

Good luck and enjoy. They are beautiful fish.

HRP are longer and not as tall as Cons. My female Leucistic was 2 years old and barely 3". No color on belly and blueish fins. My Rio Danli male is about 4".
