Hi I have a female platy who gave birth a few week ago, she looked pregnant again big belly and the dark spot. Last nite she was acting funny going to the bottom a lot and swirling around, so I thought she might be ready to drop. This morning her belly was smaller and the dark spot was gone, but I can't find ANY fry in the tank. Could she have re-absorbed them , I think I heard of this or maybe they all got eaten or just hiding very well. Any idea's?

THX :WHOA::WHOA:

She or other members of the tank could have easily eaten them, or she in fact was just swimming around and her swelling from the recent pregnancy went down. In fact, with most live bearers, in my experience, the females will go to the top of the tank, in a peaceful area, when they drop. You will definitively be able to tell. And unfortunately, more often than not the mothers will eat the fry, after all the fry did drain them of a lot of nutrition that they simple are wanting to get back.

THX for the response. Since this post we have seen at least one maybe more fry in the tank. It is well planted so they may be able to hide from MOM.
She gave birth for the first time about 4 weeks ago. Managed to save three fry and moved them to a 10 g tanks I setup. Don't want to get into the baby fish buzz. Just had heard that they can also re-absorb the fry in certain cases.
