As the title states, which species of pleco would you prefer to keep in a 55 gallon tank? I was thinking about getting one but just wanted everyones input...
thanks!

I was looking up about them, but I have a few live rooted plants and floating plants and it seems as if they would tear them up in the long-run...

I have a sailfin (yes need to rehome) and 3 starlight bristlenose L183 plecs (they are blackwater) in a planted 55. I pretty much need to vacuum up the pleco poop every day and do large weekly water changes to keep nitrates under control (yes even with tons of plants). Sure they tear up newly planted plants but once they get rooted they stay put. I would get a bristlenose if you just want a basic plec. If you want something more fancy check out aquabid and planet catfish.

I'm really leaning towards the bushynose or bristelnose pleco... Thanks for your input, nicely scpaed tank as well!

I thought bushynose and bristlenose are the same, people just call them differently. . . anyways for a 55 gal.. if your new to pleco, i would get bristlenose but if you want something different, i'd say go for leopard frog or couple of l200's.. good luck

I think you could get either a bristlenose or a rubberlip, both stay small and do a good job of cleaning, clowns would be good if you had driftwood

try a tiger L-66 pleco more on the carnivore side but will max out around 6 inches and will leave the plants be but not a good cleaner of alagae,

Nicely aquascaped tank. What are the plants that are in there? I see an anubias, some vals. Is that ludwiga in the back right? What's floating and what is to the right of the anubias? Wand what lighting do you have? 2 T-5s?

I've always had the regualar common pleco that you could get anywhere, but now I wanna try something different.
Plants in the tank are: cambomba, annubis, rotala, hydrotriche hittoniiflora (the floating one) and the rest are fake.

- Yes I have 2 T-5 6,700k bulbs. Looking into a 2,700w "flora-glo". - Its the approriate combination with "life-glo" bulbs.

As for the driftwood in my tank; im sure the clown plecos would love my driftwood because I have 2 thick pieces. (as seen in album)
However, I really would just like to have 1 single "good-sized pleco". Perhaps a bristelnose or a leopard pleco.
