noiesmo, how did you determine the structual design(2x4's and plywood) of the tank? If there is a formula, can you please share with us? Thanks:popcorn:
I choose timber and plywood so as to reduce cost from using all glass and also the construction of that large a glass tank.

I really just look at what other people have done here and on the web, and then from there a mate suggested to keep the spacing of the uprights close.

when I worked out the difference in the cost of timber from spacing at 2-3 inches apart to spacing it 4-5 there wasn't much difference in cost.

also I noticed others here were laying the timber on edge as apposed to the side as I did, but that would have reduced my internal tank dimensions by 2 inches as I had already had the stand built years ago I wanted to maximize the internal tank space, hence the construction method.

Hope that helps.

O.K update for all

01-03-08

O.K. I got my fiber glass bits and pieces and also the bulkhead fittings for my trickle system. We drilled out the plywood to suite the bulkheads and then sanded the entire internal area plywood and timber that the pond shield was going onto.

I mixed up the first batch of pond shield as per instructions and applied to as much of the tank as possible, we then mixed the second and third batch applying through out the tank, I was not able to achieve the required thickness with the 3 kits I had purchased. I have ordered some more and will continue once it arrives.

I am going to start construction on my 3 d Styrofoam backing while I'm waiting for the next batch of pond armor to arrive.

Here is a link to pictures of the coating.

When you say you got your fiberglass bits, do you mean you bought fiberglass and mixed it with the epoxy or was that the fiberglass tape?

I only used pond Shield ( Pond Armour) and laid Fiberglass tape for the corners.

Thank you very much for all the information you have provided. I think I am just about ready to tackle my 350 gallon tank now. I really like the way you incorporated the bracing - it looks like part of the furniture, rather than the interior framing for a house.
