So i've decided to give making a plywood tank a go. I've researched it online a lot and have settled on a final design to base my tank on.(www.jonolavsakvarium.com) I was wondering seeing as coating it with epoxy to seal it can get expensive could i glue a pond liner to the plywood ( i was given a large butyl liner ) and if so what would i use and could this be used to glue the liner to itself.

My idea was to lay the liner out flat and cut out a template, like an unfolded box leaving tabs where necessary which i could use to seal the edges once its glued into place. Any help would be appreciated.

ive been wondering this to for my project. i would put the liner in after all the sides are glued together. should work imo. as for glues no idea! lol mabe gorilla glue would work since water wont be contacting the glue

Do a search on pond liners in this section, there was a recent build where someone cut and glued there liner into pace and it worked just fine. I don't recall what they used for glue. If it were me, I work on various folding techniques so the liner doesn't have any holes in it. Much less chance for a leak that way.

i just spoke with a place that sells pond liners and they said silicon could probably hold to a liner for a week then would fail. but for how ur building it the silicon would seal it while the water pressure holds it in place.

You have to bond hard rubber gasket to the liner with rubber cement then you use Dow 795 to seal the glass to the rubber gasket. My friend came up with this technique for his big tanks using pond liners. His two 2000+ gallon tanks each have 3 windows 6' long x 3' tall.

Firestone Quick Prime Plus

Firestone Bonding Adhesive -The bonding adhesive has a variety of uses. It can be used to bond the rubber to brick upstands, timber upstands.

Firestone 2 Sided Seam tape or Firestone EPDM Patch Tape
