How are hard are these rays to care for? How do they compare to a motoro? How big do they get? Im just looking for some basic info on the humerosa ray.

I havnt been able to find any info online and only a little bit on this site. Im getting conflicting answers on max size. Some say 12-15 where others say they can get 22in.

I've had mine for about 2 years now. Pushing 12" disc, probably underfed for maximun growth, but no issues otherwise.

Super easy to keep. Clean water + big space + good quality food = healthy fish.

My tank is 8x2 footprint, about 200gallons, with a 700gph trickle filter returning water through a 6' spraybar. I try to make 50% water changes each week. There is never a trace of ammonia or nitrite in the water. pH is stable at 7.6

The tank is heated to 78 - 82F, changing it every season a bit. Feeding is mainly frozen shrimp with nightcrawlers and mysis when available. They also seem to have aquired a taste for HBH soft pellets that I feed their tankmates, a group of Satanoperca leucosticta.

No signs of breeding yet. The female seems ready, but the male has not grown his full claspers yet. Spines are shed every 4-6 months and get bigger with each shed.

Like others, I have heard the most common prediction for size to be 16", but have seen photos of 24"+ animals that looked an awful lot like my fish.

'nuff said?

I have heard this theory before but never seen any evidence to support it...or what there is seems to be based on such a small sample group that it is worthless. where is your info from?
I think he was just speculating, David. The trouble is that there is so much that is not known about freshwater rays in general and it looks like it will become harder to research if things keep heading in the direction that it's going with Brazil, USFW, etc. :(.
