I feel like an idiot, I cannot figure out why my python wont provide enought suction for water changes. I have checked connections - doesn't seem to be the issue.

I used it to fill up a new tank with hot water for cleaning purposes and since then I cant use it for my water changes. Did I fry the bushings or something?

Any advice, similar experiences or input?

Thanks for the help.

Pythons are great for filling up.

They are lousy when it comes to the suction.

I went back to the bucket method because it would not suck up my fishes poop.

mines sucks like crazy even after my dog used it for a chew toy whats your water pressure in the house

With mine, if I lose suction, I have to sort of coil it up and hold it high so the water drains back to the sink. Once it sort of "burps" itself clear again, then it should work. They work great if the line is completely full or completely empty. But, if they get an air pocket in the line, they won't suck at all. Which sucks. lol.

Good luck :)

One quick suck on the end of the hose and mine drains fast with enough suction to bring gravel to the sink..Or if it hooked up once it starts draining i shut off the water, maby its about tank height and location..

Thanks for the help. The suction seems so much weaker than it used to be. I wonder if they turned down my water pressure in response to how much water I use. LOL

So it just lost suction overall? What i noticed is that when i was living at my friends house, his water pressure was alot stronger and tank was closer so it was breeze. At my new house the water pressure is horrible and my tank is further away so its a pain to even get the syphon going. I ended up buying the longer hose and i connect it to my outside hose and its alot eaiser.....only if the weather is nice.

Depending on the size of your tanks, some people will waste a lot of water when you suction and have to have the water on full blast.

I tossed the sink hook up years ago and wound up with about 3-4 more of them after as well without the sink stuff etc.My opinion is they never work right when used that way.I just go old fashion, put it in the tank and fill the tube, then start the siphon by mouth. You will have more than enough time not to get it in your mouth and gargle fish poop if you just watch it.You can actually feel it start anyway. The only other problem I encountered is some of the tubes at some point had a flapper added to the inside for some reason?I guess to prevent back flow? Who knows, but I rip that flapper off with a needle nose plier and that takes care of that flapper issue that used to slow the flow and make it clog.Siphon it out the nearest window, door, sink, toilet whatever you can get away with and forget the sink crap. The only thing that is really useful for is filling it back up but in my opinion, a bucket is better anyway so it can be treated with water conditioner each bucket before putting in the tank, or you have to use double doses when its in the water. That's a PIA. Filling buckets and dumping by hand is like my daily workout. My water bill is high enough without constantly running water also and wasting it with that sink adapter thing.
EDIT: I'm surprised all of you use that sink adapter. Don't bother with it.If you do a manual siphon the vacuum is way stronger and it could actually suck gravel completely out of the tank if I let it, using the regular siphon effect.
