I've recently obtained 3 Brown Rabbit Snails. I put 3 of them in my Tanganyika tank that has 3 Brevis Shelldwellers, 1 Altolamprologus Compressiceps "Orange Mwela", 1 Eretmodus "Zambian Blue Spot, and 4 Synodontis Lucipinnis. I put the bag in the tank and went to watch TV. 30 minutes later I came in set them all on the sand near the front of the tank. All 3 of them started moving within 20 minutes but now only 1 is still moving. The other two just kind of stopped and laid there. If anyone has any information on this behavior or an actual care guide to them it would be greatly appreciated.

All of the fish are not over 2 inches, and it is a 55 gallon tank.

Do you know if they are wild caught? I have one that is and she mostly comes out at night and hides during the day. My tank raised ones are out and about most of the day. Also make sure the cichlids are not picking on them. I have mine with no fish.

FINALLY!... and I'm not exactly sure if they are wildcaught... but they most likely are... and the only time I ever see one of my cichlids bothering them is when my Eretmodus is trying to eat Algae off their shells... and They also come out right after I do waterchanges... Maybe I don't have the right water Parameters?... I'll have to get a test kit

Oh and I have a question... How do they reproduce... Are they Asexual? Do they clone themselves?

Usually if they are larger and have shell erosion they are wild caught. I keep my yellow rabbit snails in hard water with high PH. If they are in a Tang tank the water parameters should be fine. They do like warmer water as well. I would check your tap water compared to your tank water.

They reproduce sexually so you'll need one of each gender. I have no idea how to tell their gender. Usually by having a group you'll end up with at least one of each. They give live birth to 1 baby about every month. Females can store sperm. The babies grow pretty slowly.

I'm not exactly sure if they have shell erosion... I've seen snails where there shells turns that white color and thats shell erosion... Does that ever heal?... Because all 3 of mine have none of that

Here is a picture of two of them though... notice towards the opening of their shells it has a brown color

Those are chocolate tylos. I believe if they are tank raised they don't get that interesting shell, it's more brown.

So I've read Chocolate Tylomenias eat plants and sometime bury themselves in their substrate... None of mine have touched any of my vallisneria and I think one of them is trying to bury themselves but he hasn't fully achieved it
