Do fish yawn? Because nowadays I see my fish opening their mouth really wide into an O shape and it looks like its yawning lol.

yes, ive heard it is a sign of high nitrates. might be a rumor but wait for others to comment.

My catfish yawns a lot and my nitrates are never over 15ppm. They do it to work their jaw muscles

yea a lot of fish do it......i've only seen my clown knife and some of my cichlids do it but i have seen pictures of aros doing it too.................never heard anything about it having to do with high nitrates..........

I have seen my red spot sunfish (north american native) that i keep in a 40 gal heavily planted tank yawn several times, I keep duck weed covering the tank. The back and one side are covered in algae, i read 0 nitrates, 0 ammonia, and 0 nitrites.

Oh i see. Well, the first time I saw my jd do it i was so scared! It was right in my face against the glass and then all of a sudden (O.O)

ok so the nitrate myth is out the window

Another myth BUSTED, if it is nitrites maybe because they are trying to get more water flowing over their gills, but not nitrates.

They probably yawn when watching rosie o'donnell on tv.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL.:mwave:
