Hey guys, I need some advice. I recently set up my 75 with 2 mopani and a few other pieces of wood, one is over 5 feet long & curved, so it barely fits. The issue is my water is reallllly dark, I mean can't see rear of the tank dark. There is some frogbit, jungle Val's and 1 sword in there. I actually like it, figure it'll look awesome with fish in there. My only issue is will the water being this dark affect plant growth? Before I put the sand in the water was super bright from the light, 48" Beamswork led. I took a picture, excuse the quality, but you can get the gist of it. Let me know if I should remove the wood, buy another light or will everything be OK? Oh, by the way, there is play sand in there. It was cloudy from not rinsing but that OK now, had a filter running and took out the water. For ferts I use osmocote in the sand, had great results last time. Thank for your help and advice.

As mentioned either add more light or do more water changes to remove some of the tannins...

Over time the wood will stop leeching tannins but if its that crazy right now, i would expect to probably see some level of tannins in the tank for at least 6months to a year...

That would make a great black water tank. I was actually gunning for that tint but my pleco ate all the indian almond leaves.

You could boil the wood again to speed up the tannin release. And in a few months it will be better.

I boil it but the largest piece is at least 5 feet long. I do have another issue though, I just received a new plant but can't tell what kind it is. Hopefully someone here can help. Thanks again.IMG_20180605_203913.jpg IMG_20180605_203905.jpg

I know, I just love tannins. I was scared about the pony because it's been a while since I set up a tank and it occurred to me that this could possibly be mondo grass, good to know. Thanks
