Hey guys. I'm setting up a 300g tank at the moment, and want to mix flourite with garnet sand. Anyone have any advice on where I can obtain it? I'll probably need 50-125lbs I'm guessing. Is it available online? I plan on checking home depot tomorrow if I have time after work. I'm really excited about the 300g! Its going to be a poly/gar paradise.

Black Bull sandblasting media. It is sold at Tractor Supply stores and also on line, but shipping would kill you. Also, I think you will want more like 300+ lbs for a tank that big. I have 300 lbs in a 150 with a 48X24 foot print. Regardless, just look around at sandblasting media where you live. Someone will have some.

I used 100 in my 180 and it wasn't enough. Theres a vendor on ebay called tacoma company that offers free shipping. Thats where I got mine. #16 natural grade.

Do you guys have images of the sands you mentioned in our tank? Would be really helpful. thanks,
III

I only had to use 100 lbs in my 150 and it had about 1.5-2" of sand all around. I used black diamond blasting sand. When I was at tsc I saw the Garnet sand and it was about $25 for 50 lbs I think.

Not bad at all. Its crazy how high the mark up is for hobby related stuff. T.T

i found crushed garnet from a landscaping supply company once upon a time.
yeah dont buy anything labeled as " aquarium " its always ridiculously marked up

And poorly crafted, generally speaking. I'm going to look at the options presented in this thread when I get off work. Thanks for all the input.
