I have been reading up on gold severums today and at this point I am thoroughly confused. I should go back to 10th grade biology again and re-learn what I once knew about dominant and recessive genes I guess.

What is the best approach for attempting to establish a breeding pair of severum that will produce red spotted severum fry?

I like the straight golds too, but I would really like to establish a breeding pair that produces red spotted traits with some reasonable frequency. Any suggestions?

I have continued to read up on the gold severum aquarium bred line and think I understand it now. Correct me if I am wrong, but the difficulty is finding a viable male. Many of the red spotted gold males are either sterile or not really interested in cooperating with fertilization. But it seems the trick is to find a female gold severum that will pair up with a male red spotted who is a willing participant. No wonder you don't see a lot of them listed for sale online and no wonder many of them come from the same couple of suppliers. It might be a difficult project to get into unless I can find an established pair that are already producing fry. Is buying 5 or 6 red spotted golds and 5 or 6 plain golds hoping to get a pair the only real way to go about this other than buying an already established pair?
