Bought these two today marked as “red terror”.
When they were in the tank it was a bit hard to distinguish the “Y” mark by the head. I’ve never had issues with this LFS so I went ahead and bought them.
When I got home and got a closer look I couldn’t help but think that I might have been sold Mayans. Wanted to get a second opinion from you guys.
Thinking about returning them if they are indeed Mayans.

Nope, Mayan
Still can be a beautiful fish.
But I understand if you want Festae and you get Mayan.

Appears to be uropthalmus to me too, but a pic in the tank would help solidify the ID. To me they are superficially similar but quite different when you know them both.
The term "red terror" was actually in use for uropthalmus before it started to be used for "festae" so if you bought a "red terror" you actually got what you paid for.
If you want really "festae", you don't buy a red terror, you buy festae.
I actually prefer uropthalmus to festae myself, but have kept both.
here is a festae male.

now 2 festae females.

now a video of uropthalmus in their natural habitat.

Agree with Tolletcar, the spot on the caudal that runs high to low, is one of the give aways.
On festae it is usually only in the upper half or at best, 2/3rds of the caudal.
Like you, I prefer uros over festae.

OP-make sure you keep up on water changes. They can get HITH easily like an Oscar.
