I had a group of 7 for a while. Grew them up from little inching's to mature adults.
Like most cichlids they are fairly easy to breed. You pretty much just leave them to do their thing.

Things to consider:

- Tank size. Too small or cramped and they wont breed just bicker with each other. They need to claim a territory they feel safe in. I had mine in a 180gal almost all of their life.

- They are peaceful fish, so dont keep with aggressive or predatory fish that will harass or stress them out. I have kept mine with various different tank mates through out the years, they did best with groups of angels, silver dollars, tin foils barbs.

- They need a sand substrate. They are relentless diggers and I found liked to build up sand banks around their chosen flat rock. Like making barricades. And you will need some flat rocks which they like.

You don't have to do anything besides making sure they feel comfortable and safe.
