Reef salt mix bucket smelling like chemicals?

I use a semi-large plastic tub for mixing saltwater, and I made a batch a couple of days ago. I realized that after leaving it out for a day the inside of the container starts to smell really strongly like a cleaning chemical or burning plastic. Is this the wrong material? Should I stop using this container? Is this normal?

no I pour it in at around room temperature, and this water hasn't been heated for days

I'll go look for one. it's a shame, I should probably dump the water out that was sitting there. I never like wasting salt

Yes I agree.

I will completely agree with using the brute trashcan. They also have a brute tote that I believe is right around 20 gallons same material and also reef safe.
