Good day everyone,

I have a Rocio Octofasciata cichlid of about 25cm. I have noticed that he has been suffering from a blurry eye lately, it concerns 1 eye. His poop looks normal, he eats normally, he is as active with the other fish as normal.

He is in the tank with other cichlids of the same caliber.

Aquarium is 475 Gallon.
Filter is 132 Gallon. (siporax, K1, filter fleece) Jecod 18,000.
Jecod 4000,8000,8000,15000. (all pumps are not fully max).
Aquarium is automatically refreshed 24/7, approximately 240 gallons per week.
I add Kusuri Clay once a week for 500 Gallon.
Amonia=0. Nitrate=10/20. Nitrite=0. (colombo test lab)
The water temperature is 78.8 degrees Fahrenheit.

More than 17 species of plants are on top of the aquarium and are connected to the water to keep the nitrate content low. This is also in combination with 8L Nitrate Resin.

The water is normally crystal clear accept when feeding time.

The tank has been there for about 5 years, with fish from my old tank and new fish. The tank is filled with a pile of wood and some stones, and rounded gravel at the bottom.

I haven't had any illness in the tank, just occasional injuries from hitting the wood.

Quarantine tank: 14 gallon and a 79 Gallon. (1 extra filter compartment for short stay)

I never change anything in the tank, I always do everything the same as always.

I am located in the Netherlands.

The fish in it:

Today I started with Esha Optima, 1 dose for 528 Gallon. And I will do this for 3 weeks. It wont fix his eye directly but It may support the healing process.
Should I wait a few more weeks while adding Esha Optima? If it decreases it could be a fight or collision wound?

Looks like the result of an injury - either from a branch or from fighting another cichlid. You can wait and see if it heals or go ahead and treat. Personally I would treat as the one time I didn’t the fish wound up losing the eye.
Treatment with kanaplex or maracyn in a qt tank would be best. You can dose right to the display but would be wasting a lot of meds and certain cats can be sensitive (Raphaels as an example).

Then I will look for a remedy to cure him that is available here, I don't want to take the risk of things going wrong.. It is indeed better to put him in a quarantine tank then.

Thank you for your message, I will post later when I am a step further with him.
