Perhaps try and snag him during a water change, drowning is a possibility if he can't reach the surface. As weird as it sounds

I dosed the tank with some aquarium salt. So far no change. As silly as it sounds I’m not ruling out head injury. When he swims he tends to go in circles. If you’ve ever seen a spider morph ball python try to move around it looks like that. His head is always sort of cocked back at an angle and just sadly loops around as opposed to purposeful movement.
So no improvement so far.

That sounds most unusual, neurological damage is not well understood in fish. How is the gill movement, flaring or usual?

Flaring definitely. Also I tried to again put him in a net to suspend him towards the top and he just flopped right out. His gills were red yesterday but they look less red today after a few water changes.

Was the net edge at the water level? I suspended my net to make it difficult for the ropefish to climb over

Yea it was a bit over water level but he was really thrashing. He’s rather long (about 8 inches or so I think nowadays) and I have a rather small net.
In terms of the flaring. That too me seems like lack of oxygen but I’m not sure how that pairs up with his awkward movements.

I had a pretty large net, so that makes sense. Fish that move around weirdly like that are usually not in good health at all. Keep up with your diligent care

Not sure much else can be done. I’d try some maracyn2. If not better then consider euthanizing. Had a lot of rope fish do this and not recover.
