Ive been wanting to get another clown knife for a while, but since ive already kept a normal clown, now i want to get a royal. Before i get one, is there any major differences with a royal and a normal clownknife. Differences as in eating habits, attitude, or anything else. I also really want to have the royal eat pellets. Is it harder to get the royal clown knife on pellets than a normal clown knife? Any help is appreciated.

never kept a clown before but i've got a royal that eat's anything that i put in tank pellets, shrimp, beef heart,squid....great fish

Same care as a regular CK, but be aware that if you're putting another Knife in a tank with a Knife that has been there for awhile, it may not accept it's new friend.

I have a CK and a RCK together. The RCK does not eat as well as the CK, is much shyer, and isn't growing nearly as well as the CK. However, the poor RCK got snagged early in life by a RTCxTSN who really couldn't get him down. The RCK has healed up and is VERY lucky to be alive after that as he was pretty messed up, but I'm do suspect that it affected his growth, appetite and behavior. Oh, and the two of them mind their own business, but I've heard that this is not always the case.

I have a 7 in royal and a 15in royal in a 180gl and they do fine together I see them in the morning swimming around together I do have to say I had the smaller one in 1st he was 5 in at the time when I put the bigger one in with him, I do wish that I did not get the bigger one at 15in I should of gotten another small one b/c the bigger one is very shy and dose not eat like the smaller one dose

Thanks for all the help. It wont be going in with another knife, sorry for being unclear. By your information, it seems like a royal will be fine. My biggest concern is if it will eat pellets or not. It will be going in with an oscar, silver aro, jaguar cichlid, a couple pbass, and a pacu will be in the tank till its pond is finished. All those fish that will be in the tank eat pellets, and it would just be easier if the royal does too.

It'll learn. All Knives that I've had were on pellets within a week or two.

Yeah, the royals get a little bit bigger. About 4', but thats maximum. The biggest i've heard of is 40"
