I have a empty 110 tall that i used to have a breeding pair of discs and angels in that im thinking of putting a royal plec in. But what to try a small size shoal of something and maybe a red severum. Just not sure what kinda shoal or school. Anyone have so ideas or experiences with anything different.

I keep my royal with 2 florida gar and 3 fire eels. nobody bothers anybody. imo these fish do just fine in a community tank. Mine does love munching driftwood to bits, and will devour any veggy-type foods. So don't think i'de trust it in a planted tank. But might be wrong.

these guys are prolly my favorite species of pleco.

Yea i kno they will munch up some live plants. I have 2 F gars myself but they are with a Jag and Jd in a 180 grow out. Was worried the jag or jd may try to maul it, but wasnt sure.

You can't go wrong with a nice group of geo's. Their diet won't affect the royal negatively and they get along great together.

I have a group of 10 altifrons that are all 7" with 6x l-330 that are all over 8". They look good together as well lol.

i had given some geos some thought mainly for there slower growth rate. Have seen them but have never had any myself.

depending how big it is.. my gar have showed interest between feedings in my pleco but he is very quick to "shoo" any investigations away. and imo is the most aggressive fish in the tank pound for pound. he's very defensive of the filter intake tube. :screwy: But he's never gone after the scaleless fire eels. Just defends his spot. Once I upgrade the tank I do plan on adding a pair of pike cichlids which can be aggressive fish as well. I'de say if the JD wasn't a male you'de likely be okay.. but I wouldn't trust a Jag... I did have some Oscars w/ my royal for awhile. and had no issues. The one was a utter jerk, and conflicts with other tank-mates lead to him being pulled out of the tank, but he never bothered the royal that I saw.

if i didnt have my jag with the gars id try a royal in there. But my jag has rage issues somedays, lol. I dont think i can trust him the Jd im not worried about i had him with all kinds of stuff and he doesnt bother with anything.

i keep a royal in a heavily planted community tank and i havent had any problems with her in almost 2 years now. i have several pieces of driftwood in the tank, and one of them is hers, but i keep everything fed with a variety of foods too.
