Wow! Tough one had red tail for a brief time-it would have been better to have atleast 5 so they could school plus are less skittish. From my experience Red Tail hang at the mid or upper level of the tank, so a cichlid bet 7-10 inches would be good. A Geo maybe or a Severum would work. Personally, I would try Salvini or a Male Con but they may get too aggressive-hit and miss with them. So if you want to be on the safe side go with Severum. I have a buddy who has Severum with Hep. Odoe-and they are very similar in behavior to Red Tail. Why don't you just get more Red Tail that way you have a school. Better yet upgrade to a 125 and have two schools:
5 Red Tail
5 Hujeta Gar-they are not really gar they behave and grow the same size as your Red Tail.

Oligosarus are South American so I would not put them with any Central American cichlids, much different water requirments, plus Centrals tend to be aggressive and the Oligosarus is not towards non-cospecifics, they just eat anything small enough to fit into their mouth. I've had a lot of the Uruguay species and I always kept them in with similar sized Gymnogeohagus, they can get agressive towards each other, especially the males, so it's hit or miss on keeping more than one together. Depending on which species you have they can mature between 8-18". Nice fish I always bring a few back on collecting trips. Ken

It is possible depends on the fishes tempement but i have never had any problems with an ebjd. I think that those 3 should be fine with them but just watch the ebjd and the jewel as they can be aggressive.

Are you talking about Pink/red tailed chalceus? Any ways I have one, and have heard /read that they do not so well together. Hope you can keep a group of them. My friend gave me one of his because he had three and they were agressive towards each other in a 6' 125 gal tank. My 9.5" JD and 6" Female GT do not mess with my chalceus. please post a pick of them. id like to se them.

Most cichlids should be fine with themm since they are top water fish. By the way. Mine LOVES moths. we catch them on the back deck and throw them in the tank. (rub their wings so they cant fly away)

hope this is of any help.

Like I said before why not stick with a school of Aces, Hujetas, maybe even Mac. Boul.
My friend has had his for awhile they get along well and the schools look really nice.
Bichirs are also a good mix-Chaca Cat as well.
