Where ever i'm at!
Does anyone buy salt in bulk? Regular non iodized salt (sodium chloride).
Where do you get it and in what quantity?

You can buy like 25-50lb bags of water softener salt at hardware stores or home depot for like $5-$10. Pretty sure its the same stuff as aquarium salt sodium chloride, even though it comes in pellets some times.

Pool salt from a pool supply place is cheap too. In the midwest, 40lbs for $7. Its pure salt.

Also, in some cities like mine, there is a salt supplier. Then you can get a whole skid delivered if you wanted, pretty cheap.

Ok I confirmed that at Home Depot the "WHITE CRYSTAL SOLAR SALT" is 100% sodium chloride the same as fresh water aquarium salt. 5.00 for 40 lbs instead of 4 pounds for 8.00 bucks.

wait... so ive been shopping around for cheap "aquarium salt" , and ended up gettin from wally...

but now u r saying home depot crystal salt r just the same stuff? o.O gotta give that a try :D u sure those aquarium salt arent processed cleaner than these ? or any other benefits that those "expensive" aquarium salt have other these home depot salt? ... hmm these could save me some money ^^

the only convenient part of buying the aquarium salt in the lfs is that it is easier to store than a 50 pound bag of salt

I compared the MSDS (material safety data sheet) for both salts and they are the same. I even called Morton to verify and the "WHITE CRYSTAL SOLAR SALT" is pure!

I can't remember where I read it, but I think your are suppose to not use the pellets salt for your aquarium because the binding agent does something to the water. I use the regular rock type salt for my watersoftner and take some for the tanks. I get mine at lowes but you can find I almost anywhere.
