I acquired a 10" BGK about a week ago and it seems he's terrified of me to the extent that he's missing out on feeding times. In the shop, he was eating flake, but I've introduced him to bloodworms and red pellets - the problem is that every time I open the tank lid, he immediately lies down flat on the substrate and pretends to be dead. He stays like that for two minutes or so, in which time the other fish eat all the food. Even if something lands alost touching his mouth, he'll still play dead while the silver dollars scoop it up from right in front of him.

After a few minutes, he'll jump up again and go frantically hunting round the tank, disturbing the shrubbery, and searching for anything that's left, but there's never much at all.

I'm worried that he may end up starving to death.

Try feeding with after the lights go out. That way it'll be a better option. Or get a suction cup floating cave and if the knife gets in there then can target feed it.

Do you have a place for it to hide? A piece of PVC or a tangle of driftwood? It will feel more secure if it has a hiding place.
