So I managed to convince my teacher at NC State that for my final project for my tde110 (intro to material processing) class that it was a good idea to make a plywood aquarium :). So it starts today. I went and got all my lumber, and a 55 gallon tank off craigslist, I'll be dismantling the 55 gallon and using the glass from it. I've also decided to seal it with DRYLOK.

I know everybody on MFK is adamant about getting updates, and lots of pictures. I'll do my best, but I'm warning everyone now, this should be a pretty slow build (probably a month). We are supposed to work on it in class which is only Tuesday & Thursday. Though I'm going to try to do alot at home too.

We'll heres the first pictures.

This is the tank that will be taken apart and used for the glass.

This is my pile of Lumber

And this is my vehicle transporting the wood :naughty:

I'm looking forward to the build and getting everyones opinions. I plan on copying a design on here, I plan on having a 120 gallon tank on top, with a tank and sump built into the stand.

if you are looking for a sweet lighting system for a hood design let me know because I have a cheap way for diy led moonlights and just waiting on the shipment from Hong Kong for my white lights. paid around 20 bucks for the blue leds and around 30 for the white

Why does Drylock= doomed for failure? on the back of the can it talks about if using to waterproof a pond wait a week before putting into use. So right there means the company indorses its use as fish safe.

Just ordered a lifeguard aquatics quiet one 3000 pump. I'm going to use 3/4 inch pvc to drain to the sump. Out of the pump, I'll have it t off, and use two ball valves one for the lower tank, one for the upper tank. The top tank will be just below 120 gallons, The bottom tank will be around 50, So using a 4x turnover rate that would mean I need a pump to do 680. This pumps rated for 780, so it sould work perfect for me.
