Senegal Bichir Max Size and Growth Rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
assuming you feed a varied diet, do you water changes etc..., it will take about 2 and a half years for it to reach full size. But idk how big it is now. 8 inches really depends on the fish.... but i would say it takes a little under a year, but then again we don't know the size of him right now.

yeah he'll grow pretty fast up to about 4-5 inches then he'll slow down and it'll take him 6 months to a year.If you do everything right

it depends if it's wild caught or captive bred. Usually CBs take forever to grow.

My 5+ year old senegal is 9-10" long so I'd say that's about the typical max size for a senegal. Another smaller senegal that I have had for over a month now is still pretty much the same size as when I bought it and is nowhere near the same growth rate as my first senegal which hit 6" in a 10 gallon from 3" in less than 4 months.

it really depends on the genes of the bichir. I used to have a CB senegal from petsmart and grew to 12" :P its all on genetics and how much they eat/active since it varies between each individual fish.

now, i have another Senegal from Nigeria thats 13" haha im only saying this because its a possibility that yours can grow to be as big if not bigger than mine

i'm assuming that sen was a wild caught matt (the one from nigeria)? where did you get it? And was the growth rate faster than the CB?

95% of sens are now CB I believe?
