Just made a trade for a mated pair of Cryptoheros (formerly Archocentrus) septemfasciata, and because I haven't seen the species much here, thought I'd post a couple pics.
There are a Costa Rican species, thought to a sister species to sajica.
Because they are just settling in, the tank is dark, and pics aren't showing the red/pink colors at all.
Pics are just the male, the female is off in a cave.

was able to coax the female out today with some daphnia

beyond her much smaller size, and less severe profile, the blotch of color in the dorsal really sets her apart from the male.

Your pics look very much like myrnae I have kept in the past. I have a pair of septemfaciatus that breed pretty regularly for me, but they are unremarkably colored, lacking a lot of the red/pink others have noted. I got mine from Rapps when he imported them last year.

Thanks for sharing.

You may have something there Jon, I'm glad you pointed this out, and just A/B'd my pics with the shots of myrnae on the CRC site, then A/B'd mine with septemfasciata on the site, and must say the myrnae seem to be a much closer match.

I'm happy to have either species, and will probably get clearer shots as they get more comfortable.

broke down today and set up the tripod in front of tank to let them get used to a camera in their faces.
In the original description of septemfasciata, 7 bands are considered a distinguishing feature, so as you pointed out Jon, the more I dig, the more myrnae appears to be the correct ID.
Here's a better shot of the male.

From the digging I've been doing, it appears Regan (1908) considered myrnae to be synonymous with septemfasciata, but in 1998, Bussing separated one from the other, and in 2001 Allgayer formally described myrnae.

Although all the Cryptoheros seem very close, especially the females,
I find it interesting how closely females (myrnae above) resemble nanoluteus (below)

and sajica

Of coure then there are panamanse, cutteri, and Honderan Red Points which put a few holes in my theory a bit.

Think these puppies spawned today, but its really hard to tell, if they did, the eggs blend in with the rock amazingly well.
