Hey everybody,

Last summer I went down to florida on a quest to try and catch my first shark, however I wasn't sucsessful. I think it's because I don't have a way to bring the bait further out into the oceans. Well as for what I do you, I have a Fin Nor Reel with 80 Pound Test Power Line.

For the rod I used a 7 ft...guessing I should bump up to a longer rod for the beaches. Well the question is, what is best bait and best technique of deploying the bait....I'm 16 years old so kayaking out thier aint gonna happen...due to concern family.

Any other tips are more then welcome!

Get on one of the fishing charters. I don't remember the name, but we went out for half of a day for $30. Look around at what is out there (it was one of the larger boats).

best advice i can give is to go out at night when there aren't a lot of people, set up a chair with a few flashlights and just hang out. catch some pinfish or some small croakers or blues during the day, keep em in a bucket till night and slash em up pretty good to get the blood going and then just fling em out as far as you can

Cool thanks for the advice, but woudn't casting it out not be far enough? I heard at night they come real close to the shore's for food...but is that true?

I've seen people deploy thier baits with kayaks..... maybe thats just because thier fishing in daylight.

yep its true, almost all people who fish sharks from the shore go at night for that reason, they're out lookin for food more often

that and you dont have to deal with idiots gettin in your way :P

LOL. That reminds me of the last time I went surf fishing. My friend and I had our lines out on a fairly empty stretch of beach. A lady brought her daughter right down the middle of our lines into the water and then acted like we were the jerks.

Lmfao I hate when people walk into my lines.....then they stare at me as if it was my fault....when time a jogger got close-lined by my lines in the surf lol.

Cool any specific types of baits? Normally on a normal day we catch whitings....can go to a bait shop. Also occasional sting rays are caught.

Most any species that are interested in feeding are going to be in waist deep water or less........Including Sharks........Never really understood why everyone wants to cast 500 yards past the breakers and past the Fish.......Snook, Tarpon, Redfish, etc.......

It's funny watching the Snowbirds try to Fish though..........With their 10 ft Ugly Sticks and 16lbs of lead........

Easy Shark bait - A whole 1-2lb Bluefish/Jack sliced up - Still alive works too.........

Just caught a few sharks about 2 weeks ago, caught a few pups, hammerheads, nurse, and a black tip. But I caught a Bull Shark on 90lbs and used about 6 feet of lead. And if you want to catch a shark you want to use barracuda. Nothing stirs them like chopped up cuda and Use a nice big circle hook. The bull shark I caught must have been easily 250-300lbs plus took 45mins to and hour. They don't give up, and you gotta use that Ugly Stick all my rod are Ugly Sticks!!!!!!

Cool thanks for the info again, how long of a pole should I use? I never heard of cuda used as bait, but then again you caught all those sharks...first me trying to catch these baits is gonna be tough from the shore.
