The new impeller for my Cascade 1500 just arrived and I noticed two small nicks at the base. Should I return it, or is it unlikely to have any detrimental effect on performance?

I suspect it will make it more noisy than it should be, but no way to know without running it. Shouldn't affect actual performance though.

Are the nicks smooth or do they create a rough edge? Even though the design (rubber grommet & shaft) is supposed to keep magnet centered so that it spins freely, the rough edges on those nicks could actually damage the housing that the magnet spins within and eventually compromise the structural integrity of the motor housing. I have a mag drive power head that locks up occasionally d/t not being perfectly balanced. It has created wear on both the grommet and the shaft and I have replaced the shaft once in 3 years. By the time it potentially ruins your filter, no one is gonna accept responsibility for it. If it were me I’d return it 🤷🏻‍♂️
