Regulated Sales: Restrict the sale of these species to experienced fish keepers or those with verified appropriate setups.
Ban on Impulse Sales: Stop selling redtail catfish and pacus in general pet stores that do not cater to advanced aquarists.
Sign This Petition to Demand Responsible Fish Sales!
By signing this petition, you support responsible fishkeeping, improved animal welfare, and the protection of native ecosystems. Help us put an end to the sale of these fish to unprepared owners—sign now and make a difference!"

Make sure you understand what your signature means before signing the petition. If you sign, you are demanding increased prices on RTC and Pacu, restrictions on the sale of RTC and Pacu and banning the sale of RTC and Pacu in general pet stores. Not sure how this supports the title of this thread, keeping redtail catfish and pacus legal.

Sorry- forgot to add it to the thread. They are at risk of being an invasive and in places already are. None of us want our beloved redtails annexed because amateurs don't know what they're doing.

That's a tough one.

I'm not against the idea of Stores posting adult sizes. Or increasing prices to discourage impulse buys by the undereducated. Or stores targeting new hobbyists to not stock these species...

But I'm not a fan of increasing the power of the government to dictate what free people can and cannot buy.

The original approach to problems like these was, if we do not agree with the practices of a merchant, we do not give that merchant our business. Since merchants want more business, they change behavior that drives business away.
But (in the US at least), we've become such a convenience based society, most people give their business to the most convenient merchant regardless of the issues we have with them. Then we insist someone else force them to change.

Wow, I really have become a grouchy old man. Damn kids these days...

This and only this. We don’t need any more government intervention much less granting them more power. There is far to much overreach in every aspect of our daily lives as it is. I make my living off one of our constitutionally protected rights and I’m not willing to give in any more.

As is the case with most such "demands"...this kind of self-righteous nonsense is simply the hand on your shoulder, waiting for the chance to push you down that slippery slope...at the bottom of which you will find you have no freedom and no control over any aspect of your life.

There's a common saying in the firearms community: "Gun control has nothing to do with guns; it's all about control". This is very true of almost all types of restrictive legislation regardless of what they are ostensibly aimed at. Give 'em an inch...

Voltaire: "It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere."

Me: "They're not happy until you're not happy."

Yawn another nothingburger. When there is a viable petition to legalize Asian arowanas I may sign.

Leave the fish alone. The reason they are cheap is due to mass asian fish farms, not companies doing it out of spite or greed. I dont demand "responsible" fish sales because who sets the terms for that? How long until you cant buy 1000 other fish because nobody can care for them "responsibly"
