Does anyone else have issues with this?
My arowana, who is about 19-20 inches long now, hates almost everyone. He elicits attacks from other fish because he won't leave them alone, I can't even keep him with anyone but my bullhead because it's the only fish he tolerates.
The most recent fish I've tried him with is a big foot or so long jack dempsey. They were ok for several days, the jack dempsey just sat at the bottom and ignored everyone, until my arowana did what he does and started attacking the JD (he actually travels to the bottom of the tank to start crap). After about a day running away from my arow the JD decided to fight back and even after getting pretty beat up by the JD the arow still kept harrassing and biting him, so now they're both torn up.
The JD is currently suspended near the top of the tank in a big pond net until I can get him back to the fish store and the arowana keeps attacking him through the net, so I guess I'll have to stick him in a large tub instead.
I'm just dumbfounded, because I'm sure he would fight to the death rather than just leave the other fish alone. He goes up to other fish (mainly cichlids), starts wiggling back and forth and opening his mouth, bashing into them until they respond. If the other fish flares their gills at him, as cichlids normally do, he'll flare his right back and then proceed to lip lock. I didn't even know this was within the scope of silver arowana behavior. Has anyone else seen this, or did he learn it from the cichlids or something? He's just a huge troublemaker for some reason.
