Hi, I just joined the site and also just got my first Silver Arowana from my local ACE Hardware. He's a baby of about 4 inches and I currently have him housed in my 125 gallon South American mostly catfish community tank. My girlfriend and I are getting heavily into keeping varied fish in large tanks and are planning to buy a 220 gallon to move him into in a year or two when he seems like he needs it. How much larger should I go than 220 or will that work for him and are there any significant things I should know that I might have missed while researching them? I want to provide the best quality of care as I can for whatever fish I buy. I don't have any pictures of him in the tank, only videos so here's a pic of him in the bag.

Hi and welcome..

Congratulations on your new baby!!

125 gallon is what... about 1.5m?
You wont be able to keep her there for 2 years....
If you upgrade I would go as big as you can... 220 gallon, if i work it out right is about 2.2m?
By the time she is about 3 years old even the 2.2 is too small..

My one is just under 4 years old and she is just under 80cm...
She is in a 3.6m tank and that's as small as I can think of going for her..
If healthy and eating well, they grow fast
At 80cm, they are also very powerful fish they swim up and down all the time and every now and then she actually tries to jump out if something catches her attention....
They can also be temperamental and not happy if confined.

That's how I feel.. but see what other more experienced members say

The sizes quoted here are really big... Is like quoting as big as 1 can to compensate for holding them captive.

I believe a 6ft is enough for 1 aro...

2 whole feet of swimming space for a 3 foot fish isn't acceptable in my book, hell 3 extra feet isn't that great either for an aro. My size quotes were bare minimum for such an active fish.

I do not disagree the bigger the better but I don't think we can say an aro in a 6ft will be less happy than a 8ft .. Personal opinion only

Remember.. we talking silver aro....

Not sure if you have ever owned one at 4 years old and just under 80cm... if you had, I cant see that you would recommend a 6ft/ 1.8m tank.....

Sorry..
