I’ve tried tilapia, floating and sinking pellets but yes I did see it eat in the store and they got them from Peru at around 3 inches and raised it to his current size at around 12. It hasn’t showed any interest in food at all but he is still very active, I read that when some people got there’s it took them around a week to start eating again. I’ve been trying not to stress about it but I am starting to worry as it’s been 4 daysYes, the red on the scales is normal. More important though IMHO is it not eating yet. While not a major warning sign it'd be something I'd be slightly concerned about. Do you know how long the LFS had it? Did you see it eat there? What have you tried to feed it?
He doesnt really show much interest i think the two Oscar’s could be stressing him out a little due to their size but they haven't gone at him or anything like that. That's a good sign at least it was eating in the store. Does he show any interest when the other fish are eating? I understand he's not eating but he doesn't approach the pellets? Like he's thinking about eating but just not committing to a strike. Have you seen anyone who might be stressing him? I can't tell for sure but in your pic it looks like I see the tails of a convict cichlid and oscar?
I will try to see with the Oscar’s tonight, I feed four different types, some hikari floating pellets for the Oscar’s. And for everyone else I put all of these as listed into one of the extreme lids and put them in , medium sized hikari sinking pellets, extreme sinking pellets, extreme flakes. And I think you might be right the SD’s I’m not to worried about since they usually just wait for the sinking pellets to come to the bottom and eat them there but both the big Oscar’s eat at the top and I think the arowana is intimidated.Oscars and SD's are very food aggressive and that could be intimidating to the Aro. Making him shy away from even showing interest. Aro's can be jumpy around quick movements such as SD's feeding and the Oscars can easily be hogging the food with body language you aren't picking up on. I only mention it because it is something I've experienced myself with my Aro's and Oscars. The issue subsided when my Aro's got to twice the O's size as the Aro's became more confident. I don't know what kind of pellets you're feeding but if you could do sinking and floating the O's may concentrate trying to grab up the sinking giving the Aro some breathing room to and feel comfortable enough to go for the floating.
I hope so to I will for sure post updates it’s truly a beautiful fish thank you for your help.Yeah, O's like other cichlids will do things like purposely break line of sight with the food for other fish to try an intimidate other fish, using their body as a deterrent. At least that's been my experience. Hopefully your Aro will gain enough confidence and comfort to make a go for the food as time goes on. I wish you good luck and hope to see updates as your Aro settles in.
Welcome aboardView attachment 1543021It was sold as a silver arowana and it’s in a little bit of a rough shape from the shop I got it from on the 21st it still hasn’t ate since I got it but I’m sure it’ll take around a week. But can anyone tell me if the red on the scales is normal?
