silver sharks tank size?

my mate has gave me two little baby silver sharks for my 100 litre (3 foot) aquarium.

my question is how long can i keep them in here before i have to rehouse them? what size will they reach in this tank?

i did some research for you since no one on this forum helps anyone , at least not in my experience. they will grow pretty fast and if your tank is full of other big critters then you will prolly have 6 months. I have seen one in a 30 gallon along with some other fish and it was full size and quite happy so as long as your tank isn't packed with fish i don't see why 2 would be a problem they grow to about 13 inches

What are the tank's dimensions? Also, by "silver sharks" do you mean bala sharks (Balantiocheilos melanopterus) or the catfish, I've heard them both referred to as "silver sharks."

yes he means bala sharks, they are commonly known as silver sharks here in the uk.

ive read they can hit 12"+ but ive also read about some going round that dont grow larger than 6", how true i dont know.

imo prepare to house a 12" fish which needs to shoal with a few other so 4+ in a group. ive heard from other keepers and know from experience )only had them at about 3-4") that these need a long tank because they are like missiles and often bash themselves off the tank sides.

and mastodon thats a very negative view of the forum. if a post doesnt get answered its probably because they dont know or the post has only been up for a short time. 99% of the time someone chimes in but you can help yourself with the useful search button to the top right of the selected forum. generally people are very happy to take unpaid time out of their busy day to help but they do not, however, respond well to people who do not appreciate the fact it is time out of someones busy day.

Once they hit 8" or so you'll want to think upgrade. A year tops, but be prepared for as little as 6 months.

When you upgrade your gonna need at least a 6 foot tank because there very active swimmers.

there will be just two in the tank with 5 other small fish that i dont know the name of (no more than 2 inches each)

i kept some 3" ones in a tank approximately that size and i can assure you when they get spooked you will here thumping on the glass. quite skittish fish IME and anything shorter than 6ft long term is risking the fish.

From what I've read/heard, if they're given a proper amount of space, they should be able to grow to 14" in just over a year. The biggest I've heard of was 16", but the biggest one I've seen a pic of was 15". To the OP, how big are they now?
