Hi All,

hope to one day have a 1000ltr/265 gallon tank or slightly larger to house the following fish all in one tank (not sure on numbers for each?)
Red belly Pacus
Red tailed catfish
Giant gourami
Arawana

But wondering what smaller size tank should I go with to house juveniles until they grow large enough and move into the larger tank above? Any dimensions you recommend? Don’t want too big just enough to transition them and keep two tanks going?

I'll be brutally honest with you. The 265g tank which you plan to house them in one day as adults, is probably going to be no better than a grow out tank!!

They all grow quite fast, especially the RTC. Those fish as adults, if you plan on keeping them all together, are going to need a substantially larger tank in the long term than a 265g.

If the max size tank you can get is a 265g, I'd seriously reconsider your stocking options.

I can go much bigger for the larger tank to house the adults (width to be 1metre and height/length not sure as yet). But didn’t want to put juveniles in a very large tank at first to start off with as I assume there maybe issues with putting small juveniles in a massive tank at first with feeding/noticing food and other issues.

Usually I'd agree with putting a bunch of grow outs in a grow out tank. It's a tried and trusted method we all use.

But with certain species, imo, that tried and trusted method becomes redundant. I'm talking about fish that are fast growers. Your proposed stock list are all fast growers, the RTC insanely so.

Your proposed grow out tank would only be fit for purpose for mere months before you had to break it down and install your big long term tank. Seems like a load of hassle to me.

Personally I'd opt for the big tank right away, others may use a series of grow outs, at the end of the day it's your call.
