Snakeheads in Malaysia

hi, i'm Nas and this is my 1st post.Maybe someone here already know me and saw my fish pics in another forum.anyway,I'll post again here

Below are channas/ snakeheads I've caught in the wild. Using casting, hook and line or netting.



Channa micropeltes/ in malay 'Toman batik', caught in perak.lakes and rivers in peninsular Malaysia, already introduced species in Sarawak river.



Channa Lucius/ in malay 'Bujuk', caught in sarawak. clear water/blackwater streams and swamps, can be found both east and west Malaysia.





Channa Gachua/ in malay 'Haruan todak', caught in perak and sarawak. Clear water streams,can be found both east and west Malaysia.





Channa Bangkanensis/ In Malay ' haruan Hutan ', caught in tanjung malim and Sarawak. Peat Swamps and small streams. can be found almost peat swamp forest in sarawak and certain part in west malaysia.








Look at the eye! super black

Channa Melasoma/ In malay 'Haruan Palas'. Caught in Sarawak, can be found in Perak. Peat Swamps and small streams. certain place in Sarawak and west Malaysia









Channa Baramensis/ In Malay ?.Caught in Sarawak(habitat only in Sarawak).Blackwater Swamps and blackwater streams,both peat swamps forest and Kerangas forest.





Channa Striata/In Malay 'Haruan'. Caught in Perak and Sarawak.The most common Snakeheads in Malaysia, can be found almost any lakes,swamps,streams and even drainage.

Below are channas I've bought in LFS here.





Channa Maruliodes/ in Malay 'Toman Bunga'. Streams and lakes, deeper part into the jungle. only in west Malaysia.



Channa striata Albino.

Next month I'll be doing a Hunting trip In Sarawak, hopefully i'll post my trips here later!!

oh my lord. Those are some BEAUTIFUL snakeheads. You are very lucky that you can catch channa's in the wild, i would love to do that. I've heard back in Hong Kong there are a couple places where u can catch them but i don't now where.

if u came here, Malaysia. i'm glad to show u around and catch snakeheads. Hong Kong? go ask locals,bet u can find the elusive Channa Nox!

Great collection of fish catches, na-cheers! Some very nice specimans landed... Kept most of them for your own aquarium stock, I hope?! :)

If you kindly would, please feel free to keep adding more pictures of channa catches to this thread. I'm sure many of us here would greatly enjoy seeing them.

There's a river in perak which's well known for the toman bunga (channa maruloides) hv u been there for fishing ? actually there's an article in the chinese rod & line mag many years ago about the river. I couldnt recall it. any idea ?most of the toman bunga there are full of flowers...hv u came across any of the specimen with 7-8 flowers ? let me know..

I'm not currently at home,so i cant update pics.n some of the fish already gone.But next time I'll make a fishing trip.I'll post it up here again.

I'm not sure which river that have lot of nice maruliodes,but i love to catch it somedays,but someone told me i need a boat to do so. I havent found any that have full flower yet, accept for photos.You can ask ppl in fishing.net.my bout the place. Or we can make a fishing trip one day.:)
