Some help with an ID for new fish

I just got a couple of new fish for my tank. The LFS had what I think is an Ellioti marked as a Firemouth. I wanted an Ellioti and I think it is one so I got it. They also had another fish I was interested in, it was sold to me as a Topaz. It looks a bit different to photos I've seen.

Can anyone give me some more information on them please?

You are correct in it being an Ellioti and the other is a Cutter's cichlid.

Thanks for the reply. The cutters cichlid is definitely a spunky little thing. It's got some cool behaviour and is a very pretty fish. It keeps flirting with the Ellioti lol

Here are a couple shots of adult Crytoheros cutteri.
They are about 6" TL

Both males, the one on the left in spawning dress
Below left a female only have the size,, Ypu can see a lone fry above her left eye

It looks like they lose alot of the yellow colouring as they mature.

I haven’t found that to be true. Here is one of my current pairs. Here are two different pictures one with fry and their normal coloration.

Cryptoheros cutteri and Thorichthys maculipinnis. Ellioti hasn't been a valid species for 29 years.
Both are great species. Cool water fish. keep temps in upper 60's to low/mid 70s. 68-74 is ideal. Start getting over 75 for long extended periods and they will stress and most bloat out on hobbyist.
