I received an EcoPlus Commercial Air 7 this afternoon. And I am presently designing a box for it to go inside of. Ideally, the box would muffle the most amount of sound, so it would be larger than the air pump by 2" of space, then 1" of acoustic foam. One end of the box would be slightly smaller, leaving a gap of about 1" for the hose to the manifold, a vent for heat escape, and hopefully not too much noise.

My question is; would the heat from the pump pose any risk being contained in a box? I've thought about adding a computer fan to the box, but that would only complicate things, and allow for more noise to escape.

Could you just make a box out of sound-proof foam, and put the air pump inside? I doubt it would make too much noise on foam, even if it isn't hanging.

Reloacte it to another room or a closet. Dont risk overheating it.

If you try it, be careful not to restrict the airflow. Restrictiona will raise the temp.

Try it and monitor it for a few hours and see how got it gets.

Great idea guys. I appreciate the feedback.

Ideally, I'd like to utilize the heat for the fish room.

Back in the day I had a large Gast regenerative blower running my aquarium shop. It sounded like a jet engine. I made a simple box out of sound board (a fiber board, kind of like a big thick graham cracker) with corners that overlap the openings like some people build a darkroom (now that cameras are digital people might not know what a darkroom is). The box was a bit oversize and allowed for lots of air flow. It wasn't silent by any means but really cut back a lot of the noise.
