When young and stressed, they are often light brown, and especially without a substrate.
They can get large, at least 12" , and quickly to a point, but slow growth with age.
They can be very aggressive with each other, in any tanks under 100 gallons, but usually don't bother fish they can't swallow.
Starry Night is a generic term for any of the 5-10 Paratilapia species.
Color and aggressiveness will depend on which one.
below young P sp Andapa

again the same species, as an adult

It may take a couple months to color up, but they will.
I checked the dates on my photos, and it took about 5 months to go from the light brown juvie color to to an adult black.

duanes duanes hit the nail on the head. My bleekeri was one of my favorite fish. Enjoy them.

I have a polleni in my 240g with 2 psittacus, they don't care about one another one bit but the polleni was around 10” when I added the parrots at 4" so dominance was established long before the psittacus could argue their side. The polleni is pushing 12" at 3 years old and very laid back towards his tank mates and always front and center come feeding time. Other than angelfish I never buy the same cichlids twice but if something happened to my polleni I may change my ways.

When I got mine they were only an inch, so at 5 months the alpha was between 4-5".
Just before that time, he killed all the rest, but they were growing out in a 50 gallon, which was definitely too small a tank to grow them out in.
