well im bricking it in with cinder blocks, its ontop of the hill, i poured a 4' foundation and im useing 10" blocks for the walls fo the hill doesnt cave in on it, then im useing 2" conuet tubeing to make a frame that allows a space at the bottom and then plastic lath ontop of that for seperation, then ontop of that im putting home made pot scrubbers, then bags of lava rocks then the plastic lath then filter wool, the polyester fine filter mesh stuff for oplighing the water then the lath again helt together with the tubeing.... its interior is going to be 4'X4'X5' tall then this will spill out onto the waterfall...

let me draw a picture....
ya a pic might help :D

i was going to be ading some water letus in there too, but i might be building like a well type thing with the roop bucket and crank to make it look like a over flowing well, and this would not allow anot of light... the cunduet is for support and seperation...

And the lath i speak of is thoes privecy screens they put into fense that are made if criss crossed thin wood pieses... well they make a imitation of that made of plastic, think of it as a drip tray, ot eggcrate in a sump...

not to be rude but your confusing.lol
i think i got most of it tho :D
sounds like one of my ideas a few pages back.
lattice is what your thinking of i think.
so your using conduit and lattice as the "frame/box/holder"?
i think i might just go with the previous lattice framed holder idea.
and my water will overflow from the pond into the filter, then pumped back to pond.
thanks for the info :D

yah i do that some time... i confuse myself too...

yah im bascly doing the oposet of what your doing. im filling it up and letting it overflow and your draining it, if i could go with your method i would but i cant in my position, and yes im useing the conduit and lattice as a frame and deviders to seperate each layr... its one of the better ideas that i gad, i might run a bubbler in it too but time will tell with that one. i think that my filter is way too big as is. and my filter will be way over filtered. your looks to be the right size. i wanted to plant things in mine like you did but like you i might not because of the light issue...

1st pic,i screwed off the fill in pieces with 3" screws.
2nd pic,i put holes through the bottom everywhere theres a bolt
"so if i ever need to unbolt it i dont have to remove the bottom" ;)
3rd pic,i used 1 5/8" deck screws to screw the 2 bottom pieces together
"pond and filter bottom"
4th pic, i broke off all the screw ends with a hammer.
then i screwed the bottoms to the timbers with 3" deck screws, about every foot"
the pic with the bricks in it,its warped a bit and im trying to fix it.
last 2 pics are all the sides.
painted white on one side "the inside"
the other side will be sealer/stain.

just made a lowes run.got
4 sheets of hard styrofoam "blue kind"
one more box of 3" deck screws "for the rim"
liquid nail to glue the styro on with
one gallon of stain/sealer
