This eems like an impossible task at the moment.

I have build a wooden frame 8ftx4ftx3ft and lined it with board then added a PVC liner cutting out a section to allow a 47"x22" window to be fitted.

Firstly i siliconed the window in with normal aquarium silicone, held for 5 days then the water started to seap under the silicone where it attached to the pond liner.

I was then advised toi use sikaflex, did this 2 days ago and went out this morning to see how easy it was to peel off the sikaflex from the lining, came off with one pull - didnt even attempt to grip the liner.

I am now at the point where im thinking to hell with the whoe thing.

Anyone have any ideas on how to stick pvc to glass, there is no preasure on the seal or the windowas the window is mounted in a frame and the pvc goes over the window.

Please help, reccomend something?

I work with HDPE High Density Polyethelene plastic, one thing we do to help get adhesives to stick to HDPE is rought it up with sand paper, then quickly run a torch over it, theory being you burn off a thin layer of oil invisible to the naked eye. HDPE is a petroliem based product though, not sure if it will work with pvc. dont be stingy with the sealant, put layers on there, lots of them, then after your last layer, wait at least a week to put water in, that way you have given it every opportunity to cure and adhere

option 2, Bondo or epoxy fiberglas resin as its know, thats what ive uses for my tank, forget about the pond liner, you can find bondo in the automotive section at menards and home depot and ace. best of luck, im no expert and have had tons of problems with my tank, but the glass adhesion has been flawless

many thanks for your advice ted...

I have spoken to a guy who has done it a few times and he advises of something simlar, rub the liner with sandpaper then vinigar then try the silicone.

I will try this and see what happens.

Many thanks

If this is a relitivly low pressure (not a tall piece of glass) situation, pond liner seaming tape should hold just fine assuming that the pond liner is clean and flat (no folds) and you have about a 2" lip that the glass overlaps the opening.

Well i had another re-think afer a brainstorming session...

decided to use a product called gold label pond sealant, i decided to sand down front and back of pvc lining where it would attach to the glass. I then added a good ammount of sealant under and over the top of it pressed it down firmly, then added 2" srapps of clear perspex over the top to sandwich the liner between the glass and the perspex I then added more sealant over the top and covered the entire join with a 4" strip of pvc.

Only just finished so im going to let it cure for 3-4 days and then try filling again.

Just a thought, but if this fails again, if i switched to butyl liner would silicon stick well to that?

well thats it folks... I finally reached that point..

After a bit of checking tonight i found several small marks in the bottom of the liner, so i added a bit of water and watched it slowly trickle out....tiny pin holes a few....so rather than arse about anymore i ripped the sodding pvc liner out...

So what next, i have a wooden frame, with a wood lining inside and a piece of glass siliconed to the frame one side.

Should i try butyl liner? will silicone seal to this? i dont want to use epoxy realy.

if not silicone what will stick butyl to glass?
