I have a new red base/albino black diamond stingray, a female about 8”. I’ve had her for a month. Overall she’s doing great, she eats anything I feed like a champ and is extremely active at night. She does bury nearly all day when the tank lights are on. I have Fluval planted lights and have slowly dialed back the power to less than 50% and haven’t noticed any improvement. I’ve kept many rays and have never experienced this, all previous rays I’ve had were active non stop. There are no water quality issues. I’m wondering are albinos more sensitive to light? Is there a specific light setting that I could dial in that would help more comfortable for her? Is this something she’ll grow out of? Looking forward to hearing thoughts from others!

Hey man I was just informed by my breeder that they actually really dont like any light at all. My big male was extremely active always but i was in the room with him alot and i think that helped but my new ones are like yours and only active when the lights off so much so that i leave it off now.

They are very sensitive to light. I believe it causes them extreme discomfort. Platinum rays when little in the light spin around when it comes on like its causing or exacerbating some type of neurological issue. Probably the equivalent to someone shining a laser pointer in our eye.
