I have a 360 gallon freshwater tank and a Custom Aquariums 80 gallon sump. I have three pumps in that sump and 5 pounds of pond matrix along with two socks and some filter floss and some media that came with the sump and I’m not real happy with the operation of the sump. My water is clear, but it could be better. Do you have any suggestions?

I swear by Purigen in all my display tanks in regards to water clarity. I run 2-3 times the recommended dosage as it cuts down on the times I have to regenerate it. A diatomaceous earth filter does an amazing job too as I use one prior to photographing the tank.

I do run Purigen, but only as recommended, maybe I should try as you suggested and run 2-3 times that. Also wondering if I could use the first chamber where the socks are to add K1 like a fluidized bed? Any thoughts??

I run Purigen in my tanks and believe it's a very good product. Question: what size micron filter socks do you use? I've used 200 micron and 100 micron socks in the sump for my 750gal setup and of course the 100 micron socks catch much finer particles but they also clog and need to be changed out more quickly.
