After all these years of keeping tropical fish I've fell in love with natives...go figure.

The tank will be 180 - 350g whatever I can fit through the doorway. I wanting to do a big variety group. What else can go with them? I was wanting a catfish (madtoms too small?), and maybe something else mixed in. I'm researching but I'm just not that versed in native tanks.

I would love to have a monster bluegill

About time!

How about the following mix, or at least some of them:
1x bluegill
Mud sunfish
Yellow bullheads
Xanthic redbreast sunfish
1x hybrid sunfish
Fliers
Longear sunfish
Rock bass

Sunfish tanks can be pretty awesome, I recommend starting with juvenile fish, as they readily accept new foods, while older adults can sometimes be harder to get on pellets.

I've kept largemouth in the past, but lepomis are more entertaining as a whole imo.

I was thinking...

Bluegill
Pumpkinseed
Green
Red ear
Dollar(maybe)
Ozark bass maybe I'm afraid a big rock may try the smaller suns
Bullhead

Sunfish packed pretty tight, but I'm not sure about exact numbers of each yet until I do more research. The main fish will be ozark longears though.

I prefer larger numbers in sunfish, as it spreads out aggression well, have you considered adding a redhorse sucker?

In a big tank like you're suggesting go with a couple yellow perch, a trio of pumpkinseed sunfish, a southern brown bullhead, and a bowfin.

Redhorse looks like it gets a little big for what it brings to the table. Yeah I like min 6 to group with sunfish.

What kind of numbers do you suggest? I don't have to have all. I for sure want longear, bluegill, & pumpkinseed. I can fit a 300 wide through my frame so that's what I'm going with.

I looked at the yellow perch and I wouldn't mind those if they'll fit long term.

I do like the perch and bullhead. I love bowfin but I want the tank to be centered around colorful sunfish. Keep the suggestions coming though I'm all ears.

Heres a loose example of what I'm looking to do (mute if the music annoys you).

Pumpkinseeds can be slightly aggressive, but manageable. Longears can be very aggressive as can bluegill. I tend to avoid those for that reason. Northern sunfish/northern longears can work with other sunnies, but ime they are too aggressive with others of their own species.

Perch will work long term in that size tank, but be prepared as they are big eaters.

Please reconsider the bowfin. That would be a great tank for one and mine gets along with all my sunnies.
