Many elements can change a fishes colorings. His status In the group, he may have been the alpha beforehand, now relegated to a lower status since he's the new guy. The substrate or lack there of. If females are present or not...

And it's not only if there is substrate or not. Also if it's too bright it will wash a fish color out. Too dark will make a fish dark.
Fish coloring is a delicate balancing act of many elements.

Also have to consider the health and stress of the fish. If you recently acquired said fish, he will be washed out for a while till he settles down and gets used to his new environment.

Not sure how big that peacock is but it’s common practice to hormone those fish when they’re younger so they color up way sooner than normal so they’re easier to sell. Eventually it wears off

Looks like a mature fish to me. Most likely cause is stress, as in scared shttless due to recent change in environment, and social status.

Let‘s see what he’s in with?
It was this one ob in my tank

I moved him for now just until I get more peacocks because I heard overstocking lowers agression I will also try upgrading filtration and getting a wavemaker
