What are some good tank cleaning fish? I have a 16" inch silver aro. I used to keep some goldfish in there but now he started eating them. I had the same goldfish in there for about 4 months he just started eating them. I need a fish that will eat fish poop like gold fish, Do you think a big koi would work???

I have also added a 10 inch RTC, a 17" inch clown knife and 2 syndontis catfish. The syndontis help out a little a keep the tank clean, I just want something that cleans like the goldfish.

Gravel vac. I don't think any fish eat fish poop and if they did the tank certainly wouldn't be any cleaner. You're just adding their waste to the waste that's already in there.
Some plecos can help with algae, but they produce a lot of waste too. The only solution is gravel vac / water change.

Giant pond snails...Crayfish...and freshwater clams do a really good job for us. I know that it's easy to tell the differance between one of our tanks that has them and one that dosn't.

Nothing replaces good tank maintaince of course but a "cleaning crew" can certianly help you out IMO.

The feeder goldfish kept my gravel very clean untill my silver Aro ate them, I aways did 25% water changes ever 2-3 days. It just have this problem with myself when I see waste at the bottom. My synodotis clean up I watched them do it. My redtail was taking a crap (a really big one too) and my synodotis was right behind him eating the crap. Maybe I should get more synodotis????? Anybody here have any experience with koi?????

There is none. Cichlid Addict has got it right. Fish aren't clean up crew...

Yes they are!!!!! I have a tank with 1 jardini, 10 cory's 10 catfish(look like sharks, don't know the name) 5 loaches, 5 plecos, 6 pictus catfish) If that's not a clean up crew I don't know what is. I have been using my gravel vac(I have the little peeble substrate) for a month now ( I do water changes every 2-3 days) and I don't see any dirt or old food). I usually feed them every two days. They keep the tank clean

Goldfish are as dirty or dirtier then your arow! Just breakdown and do your water changes more often.

How are goldfish dirty, when I watch them the are always cleaning up some crap at the bottom. Does that make them dirty. I also have started up a 50 gallon Quarantine tank. I put 200 goldfish in there and when I look at the bottom of the tank there's no crap, they have been eating there own crap and the flake food I give them.

Goldfish produce a lot of waste, that is what they ment by dirty. They can raise Nitrate levels in half a day with moderate to low feedings, bottom line is they ARE dirty.

so you want a fish that eats, but doest poop??? :nilly: just because the waste isn't visible doesn't mean it's not there.
