I was thinking of gettng a tank mate for my bichir since its the only fish in the tank and the tank looks dull when its hiding. What mid/top dwellers can my bichir have? He's 8-9" right now and the tank is 48x24x20

If bichir is a senegalus I would recommend for the top African butterfly fish, mid water African leopard bush fish, or African Knife fish, or Congo tetra's for an African bio type setup.:) If larger lets say Ornate I agree with heretix just make sure the fish are not too aggressive and don't out compete your bichir for food.

it's a saddled bichir (the smaller endli). I tried black skirt tetras and the bichir just ate it. and im thinking of getting a single or a pair of angel fish is that fine?

Wasn't sure about the Angels, so decided to research read some threads and most of the replys were positive as for compatibility.

Hey,
or African Knife fish
I kept adult Xenomystus nigri (17cm.Never seen one bigger than 17cm..) with wildcaught P.senegalus (25cm+).
Although a 17cm X.nigri isn´t small the "tail" is very thin compared to the body.
My Senegalus always tried to eat them by biting the tail of the Xenomystus.

I was thinking about goldfish or even a black ghost knife but i think a bgk and and endli in a 100g is kinda overstocked. What other fast moving fish can I add to the tank?

bala sharks, tinfoil barbs(beware they are pigs at eating), and oscar (same thing), more polys, datnoids. avoid clow loaches, they have barbels in their skull that protrude sometimes when being eaten, and will kill your bichir if he gets hungry.

Wouldnt do a large cichlid like an oscar it will definitely out compete it for food. I would try an acara or why not add more bichirs ?
