That diagram, with the human in the scale, needs to be in every fish store there is to give would be buyers a wake up call as to what they're purchasing.

And to take it even further, the fish stores should refrain from even stocking most of them in the first place. Then the temptation is well and truly out of the way.

This is exactly why I say stuff like arowana, pacu, redtail cats are not for beginners or even most aquarists. Most people don't get it. These are dangerous animals, and size is only the beginning. Glad someone found this and posted it.
It's only in the past month that the three examples you mention have actually been stocked in my lfs. Little skinny 5" silver arowana, pacu the size of a coin and RTC's as cute as a button at 3". I may not need to go down to my local lfs for a while if i'm well stocked up with stuff, but when I do I can almost guarantee that these cute little monsters will have gone. And what's the odds of them going to homes where they will end up in 1000g tanks?
