Preparing for a young 3"-5" teacup stingray... Need advice,, Average Aquarium size, Attitude, Healthiest Diet for them, and What tank mates do they not mix well with...
I would suggest doing a bunch of research before jumping in with both feet. Check out the stickies in the Stingray section....there is alot of good info there.
Rays need a minimum tank of 180 gallons (for life)
Rays are demanding of CLEAN water...0 ammonia, 0 Nitrite and 20 ppm or less of Nitrates. Great fish but you need to be prepared to do the extra water changes, buy the bigger tank, over filter, blow your budget on food.....
Good Luck!
Once you get a ray...ypu wont go back!
They eat alot....as pups (teacup), they generally won't take pellets or in alot of cases frozen food. They like live worms, ghost shrimp......They need alot of variety in their diet.
Like was mentioned, check out the stickies in the Stingray section and you will have alot of your questions answered.
It may be hard, but the goal should always be to get them on pellets. New Life Spectrum is the best option from what I have seen. The best method is to bowl feed. Put an actual bowl (human, like a pasta bowl, or a sinking reptile feeding bowl) and feed them in it. They are very smart so once they associate it with food it will be a lot easier to get them to eat what you want. To put the food in the bowl just use the 1" diameter clear rigid tube for under gravel filters.
Doing this I got rayts to eat pellets in a week at the shop I was running.
