I just ordered the tetra whisper 100 for my 55 gallon, my plan is to use it on a 60 gal sponge filter and a 4 inch air disk. The easiest place for me to put the pump is on the floor on my stand so I'll have roughly 6 ft of tubing going up the back and down into the tank for each piece. Is this to much for the 100? Should I only use it for the sponge filter and buy like a 40 for my air disk? Or should I try to work something out to have my pump higher up to shorten the tubes?

Length of the hose isn't an issue really. Always put a oneway check valve, if you lose power the water pressure will back flow and kill your pump and flood your floor. Not to mention probably kill the fish. You may have problems getting air evenly between the two, a gang valve will allow you to balance and get air to both. Alternatively if your not dead set on the big stone, I would just run the sponge.

Okay that's good to hear and I bought some check valves and I'll just try those out, if I can't get even air between both I'll get a gang valve.

Why do you want the air stone? If it's cosmetic go for it but if it's for aeration just run all the air to your sponge filter. It will process more water and make plenty of bubbles.
