Hi,I'm a new guy.
Channa ornatipinnis and pulchra are two different kinds. They look so similar and I don't know what'are the differents between them.Who can help me?thanks

Hi,

ornatipinnnis have big black spots on the gill covers and some one the forhead, too. These spots are ten times or more bigger than the small black spots that pulchra have. Ornatippinnis always has several spots in the dorsal fin, were pulchra can have one two several or even none. Some pulchra have one spot one the rigth side and two on the left,......

Cheers

on top of this, ornatipinnis are generally longer and more slender while pulchras have a wide head with a stocky/thick body.

but yea, i think the best way to tell would be the spots on the ceek, ornatipinnis have much larger spots than pulchras on their cheeks

i've never heard of the word irritable in that sense but channa should almost always be kept in a species only tank. Both channa pulchra and ornatipinnis can be aggressive so its best never to mix them.

Irritable in that sense probably means that they are easily pissed off by other fish of different and same species.
